Varices/Venous disease
Varices (varicose veins) of the legs are dilated, so-called “cirsoid”, dysfunctional, near-surface leg veins that are often not only a cosmetic problem but may also be accompanied by substantial complaints and complications.

They are usually caused by a congenital, hereditary weakness of the connective tissue. The venous wall and the venous valves are weakened, which causes the reflux of blood into the superficial and profound leg veins. As a result, congestion of the blood, referred to as “stasis” and, as a consequence, swelling and a feeling of tension in the legs occur. The development of this disease is particularly facilitated by standing for long periods of time (e.g. in the job), physical inactivity, overweight or pregnancy.
As a consequence, muscle cramps (at night), dyschromia, venous inflammation (varicophlebitis) up to painful ulcers on the lower leg (“ulcerated leg”) may occur.

Conservative: exercising, physical therapy, compression stockings
Sclerotherapy: obliteration of varices by injection of medication
Radio frequency therapy: by inserting a radio frequency probe into the vein, it is coagulated during the retraction process by means of the heat generated at the top of the probe
Surgical: depending on the type and extent of the varices, various treatment methods can be applied:
Removal of the lateral branches by means of small incisions without suture (minimally invasive)
“Stripping”: complete removal of a superficial main vein
