Urinary tract infection with women

Inflammatory diseases of the lower urinary tract caused by bacteria weiter zur Entstehung...

A normal and uncomplicated urinary tract disease with women – in common parlance called bladder infection or bladder catarrh or honeymoon disease is a frequently occurring disease of which every fifth woman is affected from. The - compared with men - very short urethra of women of approximately 3 cm length makes it very easy for any bacteria to soar up. Affected are above all sexual active women and older women after the menopause (oestrogen insufficiency). The infection is also known as honeymoon disease or honeymoon bladder infection that is developing shortly after having sexual intercourse. We talk about a complicated bladder infection when the factors that are normally causing the inflammation or an additional involvement of the ureter and kidneys is diagnosed. Otherwise there is a complicated infection that needs a long-term treatment and close examination, if this has not yet been happened.

A diagnostic examination of urine by means of a rapid test can verify if white blood cells (inflammation cells) as well as bacteria can be found in the urine probe. A bacteria culture is breed so that the causing germs can be identified. After the testing another testing is possible where the reaction of the germs on different medications is tested in order to find the most effective one and also planning the medication therapy. The kidneys and the urinary bladder are examined by means of ultrasound.

The cramping pain in the lower abdomen can be eased by means of warmth. A bladder infection caused by bacteria needs an antibiotic therapy for at least 3 days. Infections of the upper urinary tract make a long-term treatment necessary.
