Adjustment disorders in response to physical illness

Physical illness almost always entails secondary emotional symptoms. In order to be able to manage physical illness effectively, acceptance of the disease is the first step. This refers to the emotional process of accepting to be afflicted with a particular illness – which can often be a major problem, especially in the case of a serious diagnosis.
Second, the way of coping with disease is crucial. Today it is known that the emotional processing of one’s illness can positively or negatively affect its course.

 Help and support in accepting the disease
 Applying your personal strengths in coping with serious illnesses
 Treatment of the depression and/or addiction, if necessary
 Developing applicable behavioural strategies to facilitate recovery or to prevent a worsening of the condition
 Help in developing personal coping strategies based on the individual medical results; we individually assist our patients in finding the most suitable course of action for their condition.

In this process, we employ the treatment methods of one-on-one and group therapy, psychoeducation (learning how to better deal with a given situation) and creative therapy: A new imaginative impetus often comes not only from discussing the problems, but also from expressing oneself creatively.
