HAND DISINFECTION – CLEAN YOUR HANDS CAMPAIGN!
Hospital infections affect on average about 3-5% of hospital patients, and up to 15-20% in high-risk areas such as intensive care. These infections can lead to additional patient suffering and to longer hospital stays.One of the most important, effective, and even oldest measures to prevent and combat these infections is hand disinfection. The positive relationship between basic hand disinfection and a decrease in infection frequency was already known in 1847, when after the introduction of hand disinfection in a clinic, the rate of maternal mortality was reduced from 12.3% to 3%. To this day, the value of this hygienic measure is undisputed among experts.
Over recent decades however, the requirements for hospital personnel have been continuously increasing : cost pressure, workforce reductions, and rapid changes in medical technology and therapy approaches have massively increased the daily workload of hospital workers.
